We house our own telephone exchange, are fully interconnected with eircom and operate our own network. We are not like traditional Telecoms operators, as in we don’t dig up roads and provide phone lines. We develop and provide customised services such as flight information systems (aer lingus) , telebanking services for the Industrial Credit Unions (Garda, Civil Service) and services such as airtalk.

However, we do ask that you register your details with airtalk. See why do I have to register?
-
Will I get a phone bill from airtalk?
- No you will not. You will receive your bills as normal from your landline or mobile operator. You will see on your bill that you called the Air Talk access number and will be charged by your operator accordingly. You do not receive a bill from us.
-
What destinations are covered by the services?
- Most destinations are covered by airtalk.
-
Can I use airtalk from abroad?
- No. airtalk is only available within Ireland and is not available on a mobile while roaming.
-
Will I be charged per minute or per second?
- Most of the operators charge per second but you will need to contact your specific operator directly and confirm.
-
How does airtalk make money from the calls?
- airtalk is operated by Modeva Networks, a fixed network operator with a general telecommunications authorisation. We are connected to several International carriers who carry your calls to various international destinations. Each time one of our numbers is called we receive a payment from eircom. If the cost of sending your call to the destination is less than what we receive, we’ll connect you! There is no rocket science involved, just value for money.
-
Why when I call airtalk & dial my destination number I am told to call back on a different number at a higher rate per minute?
- airtalk covers all destinations but unfortunately it costs us more to send a call to some destinations than others. When you try to dial somewhere that is more expensive than normal, you will be given a different access number to dial. You will also clearly be told how much it will cost to call that number. You can then decide if you want to make the call using airtalk or not. It will still be significantly less expensive than other carriers.
-
My phone won’t allow me to call the airtlalk access numbers?
- This will most probably only occur if you are calling a Premium Rate Number. If you are dialling form a landline it means that your telecoms provider, ie. Esat, eircom or whoever you are using, has barred you from calling Premium Rate Numbers so you will need to contact your provider and ask them to un-bar access to PRNs. The same will apply if you are calling from a mobile. Some mobile providers apply PRN bars and a specific request must be made to the mobile operator in order to have the bar lifted.
-
Do I have to dial the airtalk access number every time before I make a call?
- Yes. However, mobile users can update the address book entries of their contacts to include the airtalk access code, followed by a pause, (your phone’s ‘P’ symbol) and then the international number.
-
What is the Nokia P symbol?
- Edit the number in contacts and add in 1520 300 300, then press *, until a P shows…then your contact number.
-
What are 0818 Numbers?
- 0818 numbers are known as Irish National Rate numbers, also sometimes referred to as Universal Access Numbers. 0818 numbers are part of the Irish National Numbering convention regulated by COMREG (Commission for Communications Regulation).
Calling an 0818 number is the same as calling a landline number outside your county, ie, calling from Dublin to Cork or Galway to Donegal.
Network operators must charge you no more than what they charge for an Irish National Call.
In the COMREG reference document ‘National Numbering Convention’, on www.comreg.ie, section 11.3.4 states.
"Network operators shall not charge originating callers to 0818 numbers more than the retail charge for making the call if calculated at the standard national tariff rate of the network operator from which the call is made."
Note: ‘Standard’ in this case means not taking account of weekend offers or other special prices
For example, if your network operator is eircom, and you want to make a call
0818 24 24 24, you will be charged the same as what eircom will charge you to make a standard National call from Cork to Dublin, which is 4.9c per min off peak and weekends & 8.17c per min peak.
The bottom line is that the price of an 0818 call is the same as the price of an Irish National Call, from landline to landline.
-
What are premium rate numbers?
- Depending on the origin and destination of your call, the airtalk Rate Checker may tell you to call a premium rate number before your destination number.
Calls to premium rate services cost more than ordinary telephone calls and each prefix has a specific call cost. Call charges from mobile phones are generally higher and the surcharge varies according to the Mobile Network Operator. The airtalk Rate Checker has incorporated all these charges so the cost per minute you see, is what you will be charged, at all times of the day. Premium rate call charges appear on your standard telephone bill and are generally listed separately. For more information on premium rate numbers visit www.regtel.ie, the Regulator of Premium Rate Telecommunications Services in Ireland.
-
Who are REGTEL?
- (www.regtel.ie) Regtel is the Independent Regulator of the content and promotion of Premium Rate Telecommunications Services. Regtel operates through a strict Code of Practice which must be observed by all companies or individuals offering Premium Rate Services in Ireland. Basically they must approve all use and promotion of services using PRNs. Airtalk, AS WITH ALL Modeva services using PRNs, is 100% approved by REGTEL.
